Ms. Katz Shear is an accomplished collaborative pianist and has worked with various artists throughout the United States and abroad.  Her work includes rehearsal pianist /coach with the Palm Beach Opera (West Palm Beach, FL), Opera Theater of Lucca (Lucca, Italy) and International Institute of Vocal Arts (Chiari, Italy).  In addition, she worked as a collaborative pianist with the Grandin Festival (Cincinnati, OH) and appears on the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival’s True Colors CD on the Klavier Music Production label.  She has worked in studios and participated in master classes with artists including Nico Castel, Dorothy DeLay, John Matz, Barbara Honn, Tom Barasel, Roberta Peters, Dean Peterson, Yehuda Hanani, Blythe Walker, Warren Jones, Renata Scoto, Charles Neidich, Sam Sanders, Sandra Rivers and Kenneth Griffiths.

Ms. Katz Shear received her M.M. in Accompanying from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a B.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL).

Ms. Katz Shear begins her fifth season as a rehearsal pianist for the Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches and continues her work as accompanist for Palm Beach Opera Studio.

Ms. Katz Shear co-authored The College Board’s Professional Development Special Focus: AP Music Theory, Teaching Sight Singing.  Her article, Sight Singing Integration: Save Time and Build Technique was published in 2008.  Last summer, Ms. Katz Shear presented a workshop at the AP Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA titled, AP Music Theory:  A Global Approach to Achieving Success. She is currently serving as a member of the College Board AP Music Theory Development Committee for her third consecutive year.

Having worked at Palm Beach Atlantic University for over nine years as a staff accompanist/vocal coach and Adjunct Professor of Tonal Harmony, Ms. Katz Shear, Dean of the Music Department/Director of Piano Studies, begins her nineteenth year at Dreyfoos School of the Arts.  In addition to her role as the dean of the department, coaching pianists and teaching AP Music Theory, Ms. Katz Shear has embraced the position of Artistic Director of the Music Department’s Annual Prism Concert.  She most enjoys spending as much time as possible with all of her boys.
